BMW Dealership
ABW Construction recently had the opportunity to demonstrate to Foushee and Associates (one of Seattle's leading General Contractors) the amazing power of the
SuperCap System and the Power of the Pump Truck. Floor tolerance specification for the 14,000 s/f showroom was stringent. Time was of the essence and we were asked to help engineer a solution. We surveyed the floor to determine the exact quantity of material necessary to achieve the ceramic tile specification (1/8" in 10'). Once Foushee, Western Tile and Marble and ABW agreed to the plan, we mobilized. In just two days we cleaned the substrate, set grade with level pegs, applied primer, and poured an average of 3/4" of SuperCap 5000. The first day was spent setting elevation pins and priming. On the second day, the power of the Pump Truck allowed us to pour all 85,000lbs of material in just 3.5 hours! Our impact on the job was minimal. Nothing went into the building accept 1 hose and 4 men. The results were outstanding.

Lake Washington Park - Terrazzo
The recent renovation of the lobby at the Lake Washington Park building called for terrazzo flooring, and J.E. Cummings selected ABW to do the job. After moisture testing and approval of the custom color design, we got started. All major work was performed at night as the area is surrounded by offices.
After the tile was removed, we had our first look at the substrate.

It required over an inch of fill in some places, so a latex modified cement underlayment was used to level the main area and bring it into tolerance.

Next was the anti-fracture membrane and the zinc strip. We pre-bent the 1/2" wide zinc strip to match the two different radii, and it fit perfectly with no adjustment!
The 6" accent strips were trowelled in, followed by the rest of the floor.
Then the dry grinding, grout, wet grinding, sealing and burnishing.
The overall design of the floor was unique and interesting, and the finished product came out very well!

Crown Cork and Seal
Morgan Industrial recently poured a new concrete base and supports for a large washer at Crown Cork and Seal in Olympia, and ABW was chosen to apply the chemical resistant epoxy coating to the entire area.

The floor coating, Sikagard 62, was applied with a smooth finish under the machine to make cleaning easier, and with a non-skid aggregate around the perimeter.

The trench, sump pit hatch, and support pads also received 2 coats of epoxy.
After the slab passed moisture vapor emission testing , the 3100 SF job was completed in 3 days without a hitch, and the results look great!

Pump Truck #1 Arrives...
Features and benefits of SuperCap system:
1. The concrete is placed and bull floated, but not finished. This process leaves a profile on the concrete for the SuperCap to bond to alleviating the need to shot blast. Another benefit is quicker hydration, which will result in less moisture related problems.
2. If excess moisture is a concern, the Aquafin SG3 100% high solids epoxy primer can be used under the SuperCap reducing vapor transmission from a high of 25lbs to less than 1lb. The SuperCap protects the moisture barrier during construction activity and during future retrofits leaving a permanent fix for the life cycle of the building.
3. SuperCap is a moisture tolerant underlayment which can be placed over green concrete with a RH of 95%. Though the product is not rated for exterior use, some exposure to water is acceptable unlike standard Portland cement based underlayment, which will breakdown when exposed to water.
4. SuperCap provides a permanent alkalinity barrier. The number one cause of adhesive failure is alkali migrating to the surface of concrete and destroying adhesives. This feature provides the benefit of increasing product performance, while reducing life cycle cost.
5. The power of the Pump Truck eliminates the need to bring materials into the building providing a significant reduction in time and eliminating dust completely… a huge benefit to all.
6. The power of the Pump Truck allows us to pump as high as 50 stories…all from outside the building.
7. The power of the Pump Truck allows us to place up to 50,000 square feet of underlayment @ ½” depth in a single day. This capability brings an economy of scale that reduces cost and placement time by 30 to 40% when compared with conventional delivery systems.
"The Next Generation Slab" entails a bull float after concrete placement and ½” of Supercap underlayment in lieu of a power trowel.
Unlike traditional concrete, the SuperCap System is predictable. The inherent problems with concrete deflection, moisture and tolerance are no longer an issue.
